I Want You to Stay
This was written about a karaoke bar in Japan and my good friend who ran it. He passed away not long after I had moved back to the states and I wondered what it would be like to go back there after he was gone.
Stripped down before my eyes
I struggle with these remains, Hey
The pictures cannot disguise
The things that have changed, Hey
So I hold on to faded truths
And cling to memories
When I go back there is no proof
Of you... And me
I want you to stay in my life
Though you’re no longer here
But I wish you well
How could it take so much time
To describe the way I feel
But I wish you well
Frightened by what wasn’t mine
I’ve seen it all before, Hey
Time and again I will try
To walk right through the door, Hey
So I hold on to faded truths
And cling to memories
When I go back there is no proof
Of you... And me
I want you to stay in my life
Though you’re no longer here
But I wish you well
How could it take so much time
To describe the way I feel
But I wish you well
