Angie Foster: Bio

Angie Foster here, a Portland-based, singer/songwriter/pianist with a Sarah McLachlan meets Sara Bareilles vibe. Or so I've been told. (I know I should act cool, but wow, that comparison tickles the hell out of me!) My upcoming album “Hurry Up and Wait” is slated for release in spring 2010. The album was recorded at the Kung Fu Bakery recording studio in Portland (Everclear, Pink Martini, Decembrists) with producer Bob Stark (Shins, Pink Martini, Intervision).

Since age seven, I have penned tunes, but my artistry is a more recent occurrence with an equally circuitous history. As a girl, I lived in Tokyo; as a young woman returning to this neon metropolis, I performed and was a music critic for a leading English language paper. Stateside I continued with music, but mainly for myself. It took the cataclysmic events of September 11, 2001 to shape my music. I wrote a song, “Never Forget” in response to the tragedy, shared it with friends, and their overwhelming response inspired me to embark on a solo career.

I was recently asked by a casting producer of America's Got Talent to audition for their show when they came to Portland. As part of that, I was interviewed on KINK FM by Dave and Sheila on their morning show. I've also been featured on Portland’s KGW TV’s "Live at 7" show, Ed Shultz’s national radio program, live365.com’s Women of Substance Radio and fm102x, and usa4real.com. My song “Way It Should Be” was in the top 10 most requested songs of Women of Substance’s pop show in January 2010. From my previous album, the song "Can I Wish It For You" was featured in the independent film MAKING MAYA and I was a finalist in a contest to be the opening local band at Lilith Fair.
