With tenacity and tenderness, Angie Foster traverses a romantic road of hope, joy and destiny. Her soulful voice carries a trace of the blues, an echo of alternative folk and the pure resonance of classic Americana. The choices that Angie has made in her own life are clearly etched in her lyrics and melodies. Nadine Condon, manager for Smash Mouth and Stroke 9, said Angie "has an extraordinary... gorgeous voice." Since age seven, Angie has penned tunes, but her newly-ascending artistry is a more recent occurrence with an equally circuitous history. As a girl, she lived in Tokyo; as a young woman returning to this neon metropolis, she performed and was a music critic for a leading English language paper. Stateside, Angie continued with music, mainly for herself. But even in the darkest hours there are glimmers of light. It took the cataclysmic events of September 11, 2001 to shape her music. She penned a song, "Never Forget" in response to the tragedy, shared it with friends, and their overwhelming response inspired her to embark on a solo career. "Every single person I played it for claimed I needed to do something with it, and to get myself out there," she recalls. "The song ended up in Nashville with a number of record labels who requested more material -- that's how it started." Working with producer Damon Whittemore, Angie fashioned her self-titled debut built around her voice and acoustic piano. Starting with drums, she added the rich resonance of violins and cellos. At sessions in North Carolina, a seasoned band of alt. country players joined the sonic mix, framing Angie's soulful balladry with grit and rhythm. Angie continues
to make headway in the music world, recently forming the band Highwire
with friends Eric Nelson, Kaliq Mansor and Harry McClane. The band plays
a mix of original tunes written by Angie and Eric, as well as rock and
blues covers. For more information about upcoming gigs, check out Highwire's
